Diagnosis and Evaluation

Understanding the cause comes before considering a procedure.

A stepwise approach

Learn about cavernogram imaging →

1. Medical assessment

A clinician reviews symptoms, medical history, current medications, cardiovascular risk factors, and prior ED treatments.

2. Testing when indicated

Depending on clinical circumstances, testing may include laboratory evaluation and penile duplex Doppler ultrasound following a vasoactive injection.

3. Selected advanced studies

Specialized cavernosography or other vascular imaging may be considered in selected patients. These are not routine tests for everyone with ED.

4. Individualized discussion

The findings guide a discussion of established options, uncertainty, expected benefits, risks, and whether any additional specialist evaluation is appropriate.

Test interpretation depends on technique and clinical context. No single test should be treated as an automatic indication for embolization.
