Where a cavernogram fits in the evaluation
A cavernogram, also called cavernosography, is a specialized imaging study that may be considered in selected patients undergoing evaluation for venous leak. It is not a routine test for everyone with erectile dysfunction.
Start with a clinical assessment
Evaluation begins with symptoms, medical history, medications, cardiovascular risk factors, and prior ED treatments. Depending on clinical circumstances, testing may include laboratory evaluation and penile duplex Doppler ultrasound following a vasoactive injection.
Discuss whether advanced imaging is appropriate
Our team can review prior testing and discuss whether a specialized imaging study would help guide the next step. Ask which study is proposed, why it is appropriate, what preparation is needed, and what risks and alternatives apply to you.
Questions for your consultation
- What questions remain after my prior evaluation?
- Would additional imaging change the treatment discussion?
- What are the limitations of the proposed test?
